You see that grey blob in my mirror? It is supposed to be a Homo sapiens sapiens, but little thinking was actually going on in that mind of its.
Because the road I’m on is called Circuito Gandhi; It’s got a dual protected bike path, two sides walks of varying length and more importantly...
A fucking running path! What on this earth made you think running on the street without any light reflective jackets on the wrong side of the road was a good idea?
As my mom sometimes says
“Are you pretending to be stupid or actually stupid?”

should run them down and then say you didn’t see them till it was too late

I honestly hope he doesn’t get ran over. 40 year old runners that do that sort of shit should be protected under the endangered species act.

I was brought up being told and telling others, ‘don’t be stupid all your life, take a day off.
While him not wearing anything bright or reflective is a greatly stupid idea. These days even dogs wear flashing collars when out on walks early in the morning. I went to school when I was younger that you had to walk through a park to get to and Wear told to walk on the side of the road into traffic so you could see the cars coming and get out the way if needed.

Oh, its common knowledge to use the wrong side of the road when there’s no sidewalk, but trust me this man wasn’t lacking on available sidewalks. I follow that rule when walking round in many places in Spain whenever I visit my family. We also apply the “never be in the inside curve” idea, where if there’s a sharp corner, you want to be, regardless of direction of traffic, on the outside of the corner, so that cars can see you with more time.
This common knowledge of course is overshadowed by the fact he’s wearing earphones.....
He might be able to see cars, but he is in the inside curve, which means that cars might no see him with enough time not to freak the living shit out of the drivers as they see a 40 something year old jump into a bikepath so that the bus doesn’t kill him.

Asphalt is a much easier impact for running than concrete (or the red rock sidewalks we have in some parts of Denver) so I usually prefer to run in the street as well. But not if someone is driving towards me...it’s worth it to jump out of the road for 30 seconds or so to avoid a car!

Ye’, even with common knowledge, you can never account for stupid.
You’ve seen my street, one way street with cars parked either side with four/five feet wide pavements (sidewalks to you guys) on either side also. But still there is this one guy in his 60/70s in a mobility scooter drives up the wrong way of the street in the middle so he doesn’t have to drive over the bumps as he goes over the paving slabs. He’ll drive up to the car coming, pull in between parked cars, then let the car past and then reverse out and continue on his way.
I seriously doubt he’ll be here next year.

There’s a dedicated running path, in fact, no... there are three.
However, I know little about running, I know that these surfaces are dirt paths with stray wood to keep them consistent, another section of the park has the fancy sort of rubbery thing running tracks in fields have. I guess that you want the least impact while not messing with surface consistency (ie: you want soft, but not to sink in it)
There’s two on that side of the park, and a huge one upon crossing into the big park. These are dedicated surfaces with low impact. There’s a dedicated running path in the section between Lamartine and Schiller that google maps did not highlight tho...
I guess I would understand runners not using the sidewalk in the case of asphalt being a better surface if it wasn’t for the fact that he was literally next to the largest urban park of the western hemisphere and it has a lot of dedicated surfaces... or if the runner was using reflective gear...

Man, people are so weird and stupid.
I’d give him a pass if it wasn’t for the fact that Circuito Gandhi is one of the three main entrances to Polanco; a neighborhood with 50,000 residents, all the embassies, all the state govt representations, at least 10 big offices including Mexico’s biggest company: America Movil, and the half of the big dollar hotels.
So you know that street gets positively clogged during the morning rush our.

Where I used to live there was sidewalks. There was also lanes for cars to park. There was also bike lanes. There would STILL be people jogging in the lane like they were in a Rocky montage. Yes, they had no less than six places they could go without interfering with traffic, and they had to take the ONE place cars can go.

Some people just don’t understand urbanity. I bet he keeps a Truhhhck for his trips to the supermarket whenever he needs brotein powder

I see this a lot even here, where it is dark and dreary for so many hours in the winter.
Hmmm, I want to go for a jog at 0430, better put on my black tracksuit/shoes/hat and maybe a balaclava too. Then I’ll go for a bike ride, but I won’t use the bicycle lanes.

I can’t say I use the bike lanes that early (they tend to be filled with dirt or old leaves), but I do use enough lights to power a pink floyd concert.

Yeah, not knowing anything about his situation, I just thought I’d speak up. We have a ton of dedicated “multi-use” paths here but they’re all concrete. I’d definitely choose dirt in that situation - and I’d probably run with a headlamp.

Funny thing is one of the dedicated path has good, intense public lighting on it.
It’s okay, and TIL that runners care a lot about path surface and impact... which is good because as a cyclist with a dampened bike I normally care about the smoothness only.

I think bicyclists, who claim to be civic-minded, should then volunteer to clean up the bike lanes now and then :)
Lights? For the mind of the locals, maybe, maybe not. Bicycle casualties are far too common here, and not always the fault of the car.

There are 2 morning walkers in my subdivision that never have anything reflective on yet both get annoyed when I drive down the road.

Like, sometimes I have to take my bike out at 5AM and if I am in a hurry I use the normal lanes at about 30km/h; no one out. If I am more chilled I’d use the sidewalk at 10km/h; again, no one out.
Plus, us cleaning the bike paths, what do we look like? reasonable people?

In my area, I think cycling on a road in the dark is Russian roulette. I wouldn’t do it (and haven’t been out in a bike in low light conditions since I was a kid in a small town). Definitely keep to the sidewalks then - it is legal here, anyway.
Bicyclists are kind of like LEOs, most are good, but the bad ones really spoil it for everyone.
![]() 02/26/2018 at 10:13 |

Its legal here too, I guess... not that it would matter, you can’t ticket a bicycle.
Its a gamble here if you use it at night on weekends because of drunk drivers and crazy valets pushing you around, specially if you’re around a social area.

Around here a cyclist can definitely get a citation, at least in theory.
I don’t ride a bike around here, not worth the risk. Even a motorcycle is for low traffic hours - Sunday mornings etc. Local driving skill is not on a first world level.
